Apple Tree Diary, August 14th

New day dawns all washed and shining;

Showy rain diamonds cling to leafy fingers

betrothed to a glorious sun for the day.

Dark memory of night’s past storm

evaporates in blinding light.

Stormy fear slips away.

Hope returns.

Only the fearsome red squirrel in the tree today.

I dare not breach her manic preoccupation with a greeting.
